That's all Deadspin commentors can do, make puns.

It's deadspin. The non-grays are just there for the laughs.
They could really care less about Zanardi's amazing story, or the fact that after the wreck, the guy was such a competitor that he just figured out any way he could to race (hand cycling) and kicked ass at it.
They just want clicks, like Deadspin itself.

I'm not sure why deadspin posted when its certainly more in Jalop's spectrum of expertise.

Welcome to Deadspin. This is literally par for the course. They have some of the wittiest, most offensive commenters I have ever seen. And I've been internetting for 20+ years.
You're more than welcome to be offended by them, but please don't start an interforum kerrfuffle because what is normal there on a day to day basis is offensive to you. Understand where you are commenting/reading, and what the norms are there.

It's Deadspin. It's the Gawker network.

If I had 1/10th of Zanardi's determination, my life would be 100x better than it is right now. Respect.

Well, while we're here, might as well talk about the man behind the convo. What kind of person is it that can just...keep going after such a horrific accident? I take my legs for granted, as most do. I totally couldn't imagine just getting up and being like "Well, off to win my goal medal at the Olympics, now." after losing so much of my body like that...
I guess what I'm trying to say is... Wow. Such strength. So determined. Many kudos.

Sometimes I think the Internet would be a lot better off if people had to register with their verifiable real names in order to comment anywhere.

As much as I'm for true freedom and anonymity on the internet, I sometimes agree with that.

Zanardi is... I don't even know how where or how he finds the strength, but he does, and he makes nearly everyone else look inferior. He's an amazing inspiration.

I kinda like Quora, which does that. Not sure exactly what it is, but there are a lot of intelligent people and few trolls...

I think that would just make things worse. Some revel in being known as dickheads, and collect other dickhead friends that go about making life worse for everyone.
What we really need is an oasis. A place where asshattery was kept to a minimum. Sure, there would still be mods, you always need those. But commentariat that would self-regulate most of the time, and generate insightful and awesome articles every now and again would be great. Hey, and someone could collect the best stuff once a week in a kind of 'The Best of [FORUM]' thing. Yeah!
Too bad for us no place like that exists. :(

That's why ESPN changed their commenting system. You have to login with your Facebook account to comment.
The change dramatically reduced the number of trolls. There are still some trolls because of burner accounts and real people that want to be known as tough guys. But overall the commenting section is MUCH more civil than it used to be.
Before ESPN made the change the comments were getting really nasty. It had gotten to the point where the majority of the commenters went to personally attack the others.

This is absolutely true. I love Deadspin, and I know exactly the sort of commentary its readers tend to engage in - It's hilarious if usually offensive in some manner.
On the flipside, I usually stick to NFL articles, and, since I'm not a Jets/Browns fan, I usually leave laughing.
Also, they like Sherman, apparently...
